A body scrub is one of the most popular body treatments that work like a facial for your body. This hydrates and exfoliates the skin to leave it soft and smooth. A hot body scrub at Calm Home Spa is performed using an abrasive material, typically sugar or sea salt, combined with a certain type of massage oil as well as an aromatic such as essential oils. A scrub that makes use of salt is often referred to as sea salt scrub, salt glow, or salt scrub.
The scrub will be followed by the application of a high quality cream or lotion to leave your skin feeling hydrated. A hot body scrub is technically not a form of massage since the body treatment is done by an esthetician who is licensed to only work on the skin instead of the underlying muscle tissues. The exception is when they give a massage to the shoulders, neck, and face.
What to Expect During Your Body Scrub at Calm Home Spa?
Your hot body scrub will take place inside a wet room with a drain and tile floor. Your therapist may give you disposable underwear that you can change into while she waits outside. You will lie face down on the massage table covered with a sheet, thin piece of plastic, or a towel.
Once you are done changing, your therapist will proceed to gently rubbing the scrub or exfoliant on the back of your arms, back of your feet and legs, and on your back. You might be draped with a towel so just the part where therapist is working on is exposed. After that, you should turn over and the therapist would do the other side.
Once therapist is done, you typically step to a shower to rinse off. Make sure that you rinse thoroughly so you do not take a bit of granules back to your table. Never use shower gel, it is great to keep the aromatics and oil on your skin. If spa does the treatment on wet table, the therapist would rinse you off with handheld shower or turn on the Vichy shower.
When you step into the shower, your therapist would put clean sheets on treatment table while you are showering and would step out of the room again. Dry off and lie with your face down on the table underneath a towel or sheet. The therapist will return and apply body oil or lotion.
